As a young child - descended from Samurai and Onmyoji (masters of astronomy) and raised in a remote mountainous region of Japan - Yumiko was drawn to shamanism and meditation and showed innate healing abilities. Into adulthood, she built on these natural gifts by embarking on extensive study and research.

Today, Yumiko is qualified as a psychotherapist and has practiced integrative therapy, working alongside medical doctors in challenging cases.  She was honoured to be made a Fellow of the Complementary Medical Association this year.

The philosophy of self-healing (Jikochiyu) underpins everything we teach here at Leaves Institute. It is at the core of our short courses and our Diploma programme. In founding this online school, Yumiko’s hope is that people across the world can become empowered in the skills of self-healing. Once learned, these skills can be used throughout your life, applied to many different situations and taught to others. In this way, our aspiration is to heal the world, one person at a time.

Many of us develop symptoms of dis-ease because we have lost contact with our true self. Leaves Institute will take you on a journey of self-discovery, helping you to understand yourself better and reconnect with your core being. You will experience this both through our short courses and – if you wish to go deeper – our Diploma programmes.

All of our short courses and Diplomas offer you the chance to work directly with Yumiko in group tutorials. Although she is a master healer, Yumiko’s humility and warmth puts people at their ease and students often comment that working closely with her is one of the highlights of the course.

You may have heard the expression ‘all healing is self-healing’ and this belief is the foundation of everything we teach here at Leaves Institute. As a student with us you will learn how to heal yourself and bring harmony to the world around you.  In this way you will discover how to live a happier, healthier and more fulfilled life. You will experience powerful healing as you study, learning to apply these healing principles to every aspect of your own life. 

What we offer is not Reiki healing, although we do work with energy in a similar way to Reiki. Our approach - Jikochiyu - combines meditation, energy work and spiritual healing. It is only taught here at Leaves Institute.

As you learn with us, you will experience healing. To help with your healing journey we offer free meditation sessions and taster courses from time to time. Leaves Institute believes in teaching the principles of Jikochiyu so you can learn to self-heal.
